As a level III teaching hospital, Peninsula Health is accredited to provide all 36 months of core and non-core training within our hospital network. Peninsula Health is a part of the Bayside-Peninsula RACP training consortium, enabling shared BPT training material and opportunities with Alfred Health.
In addition, we have a comprehensive onsite education program which delivers excellent results, including a first-time sitter pass rate of 83% for the 2025 RACP Divisional Written Examination, surpassing the national average.
The aim of our BPT program is to maximise each trainee’s ability to progress to their Advance Training program of choice within the shortest timeframe possible. In addition, we strive to provide a training environment which supports our trainee’s well -being and allows them to reach their full potential as a Physician.
Below is a summary of the structured learning program for each year of physician training:
BPT1 | Vocational Teaching: – Deteriorating Patient Simulation Sessions. – Lecture style presentations covering information relevant to current work e.g. managing inpatient diabetic issues. Preparation for clinical examination: – Case Based Presentations in long case format. – Short case skills sessions and practice short case sessions. RACP requirements: – Advanced Life Support Course (funded by Bayside Peninsula Consortium). |
BPT2 | Preparation for written exam: – Access to Alfred Hospital Lecture Series (live). – Weekly tutorials with consultants on site. – Multiple practice exams, under exam conditions with feedback sessions covering difficult questions. |
BPT3 | Preparation for the clinical Exam: – Free access to the Alfred Physician Education Online Program. – Multiple weekly short and long case practice sessions. – Cardiology, neurology, rheumatology and abdominal short case sessions covering specific medical conditions. – Public long case sessions in conjunction with Alfred Health. – Trial exams. – Individual exam coaching sessions with external coach. |
In addition, each trainee is assigned an educational supervisor aligned with the trainee’s area of interest to help create research opportunities and provide mentorship. And support trainee well-being for the duration of their basic training.

BPT2/3 | – Cardiology – Gastroenterology – Neurology – Oncology – Haematology – Geriatrics (Frankston Hospital, The Mornington Centre or Mildura Base Hospital). – Peri-operative medicine – Renal Medicine (Frankston Hospital or Mildura Base Hospital). – Infectious Diseases – General Medicine (Frankston Hospital, Rosebud Hospital, The Alfred or Goulburn Valley Health). – Endocrinology – Intensive Care Medicine |
